NATIONAL BAR STAFF QUALIFICATION
This course is a national qualification aimed at raising the professional standards of the bar staff. The course designed by the Industry by the British Institute of Innkeeping educates the staff in the following:

Who holds the licence and why barpersons must help the licensee to keep to the law when alcoholic drinks can be sold and What drinking-up time means

The law relating to the sale of tobacco to young persons
How to check someone's age
Who has the right to enter licensed premises, who can be ejected from premises, who can be refused service in licensed premises and what an Exclusion Order is?
The requirements of the Weights and Measures Act, including the legal measures for the service of draught beer and cider, whisky, gin, rum and vodka, and wine
Which drinks are controlled by law, how the strength of a drink is measured and what a unit of alcohol is how the body reacts to alcohol and removes alcohol
The Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and how the licensee can be supported in tackling drugs on licensed premises
The signs of drug activity
The circumstances which may lead to violence on licensed premises, how trouble can be prevented and what to do when trouble starts
When credit can be used to buy drinks How barpersons can help to promote social responsibility in the use of alcohol how to act responsibly over 'happy hours'
